Pantone Selects Colors for Spring 2008

Designers Dive into Color for Spring

Refreshing splashes of invigorating brights punctuate classic, versatile neutrals as designers offer a playful spring palette for endless exploration and creative combinations. Variations on popular colors such as energizing red, cool, waterborne blue and eco-friendly greens also play a key role this season.

“The spring ‘08 color palette perfectly reflects the cheerfulness of the season,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. “Stabilizing neutrals combined with pops of brighter colors to create unique, distinctive looks are the basis for a great spring and summer wardrobe.”

The top 10 spring 2008 colors for women:
Snorkel Blue (PANTONE 19-4049)
Freesia (PANTONE 14-0852)
Daiquiri Green (PANTONE 12-0435)
Croissant (PANTONE 16-0924)
Rococco Red (PANTONE 18-1652)
Silver Gray (PANTONE 14-0000)
Spring Crocus (PANTONE 17-3020)
Cantaloupe (PANTONE 15-1239)
Pink Mist (PANTONE 13-2805)
Golden Olive (PANTONE 16-0639)

Reds, Purples and Pinks
Spring Crocus is one of the most wearable and prettiest hues as it mixes pinkish lavender and soft purple.
Pink Mist is a cool, crisp shade of lavender pink, very subtle and flattering.
Cantaloupe is a warm, soft peachy pink, reminiscent of soft rose petals.
Rococco Red is an exciting and invigorating pinkish red, which blends boldly with other pinks and purples.
Greens and Blues
Daiquiri Green a subtle earth-tone, soft and gentle like the first buds of spring. An elegant pastel minty-green that compliments one of the season’s keynote colors Silver Gray.
Snorkel Blue is an energetic bolder blue, providing warmth and sophistication.
Yellows and Browns
Freesia, exactly as the name suggests, mirrors the bold yellow vibrance of the freesia flower. Cheerful and friendly, this browny yellow is uplifting and inviting.
Golden Olive needs no introduction. Soft pastel mixes of greens and browns suits most skin tones. The color of this almost-ripe Mediterranean olive provides a sound base for this season's creations.
Keynote Color
Silver Gray, soft subtle and versatile, flattering and elegant, this keynote color replaces the harsh black of the winter. Perfect for the transparent fabrics which designers favor for spring. Reflecting a natural hue found in mother-nature’s garden Silver Gray is the color of fur, pebbles and springtime clouds.

Earring/Jewelry Tree

I purchased this earring tree to bring to trunk shows. It is great to watch everyone gathering around the tree looking at all the earrings. I could not get a good photo of the tree with my earrings displayed so I used the photo from the artist. You can buy your own tree from Claudines Closet: claudinescloset.etsy.com. She has smaller versions for personal use too. I got the big one, although I could even use an even bigger one with all the earrings I have. She also has a wall mounted version that would look great on a bedroom wall.

Greek Ceramic Washer Beads from Mykonos

One of my favorite new finds of this past year are the washer type beads made of high fired ceramic from Mykonos Island, Greece. These kiln-fired, dyed terra cotta beads often have the look of wood, metal, or stone. The best part are the large holes...great to fit that 12 gauge wire or leather cord. My first purchase was a little packet of 8mm and 13mm washers. I made a few items and fell in love. I bought a bunch and just had to share them with others. I have just added other colors, shapes and sizes to my Etsy page. You can buy nuggets, donuts, gears and washers. I have others in my stash that I have yet to photograph and put up on Etsy. If I ever have handcrafted jewelry making supply finds that I feel I have to share with others I will always put them up on my Etsy site tekaandzoe.etsy.com not to confused my handcrafted jewelry customers with my jewelry site http://tekaandzoe.com/.

Pantone Selects Color of the Year for 2008

Pantone Selects Color of the Year for 2008:PANTONE® 18-3943 BLUE IRIS A Multifaceted Hue Reflecting the Complexity of the World that Surrounds Us

CARLSTADT, N.J., Dec. 10, 2007 - Pantone, Inc., the global authority on color and provider of professional color standards for the design industries, selected PANTONE 18-3943 Blue Iris, a beautifully balanced blue-purple, as the color of the year for 2008. Combining the stable and calming aspects of blue with the mystical and spiritual qualities of purple, Blue Iris satisfies the need for reassurance in a complex world, while adding a hint of mystery and excitement.
"From a color forecasting perspective, we have chosen PANTONE 18-3943 Blue Iris as the color of the year, as it best represents color direction in 2008 for fashion, cosmetics and home products," explains Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute®. "As a reflection of the times, Blue Iris brings together the dependable aspect of blue, underscored by a strong, soul-searching purple cast. Emotionally, it is anchoring and meditative with a touch of magic. Look for it artfully combined with deeper plums, red-browns, yellow-greens, grapes and grays."

Style Feeder

Have you heard of Style Feeder? I have played around with it. Is it usefull to you?
Taken from Style Feeder site:
About StyleFeeder
Once there was a boy who liked to make software. When he was nineteen he fell in love with a girl who was supposed to be teaching him French. She was French, in fact, and she liked to cook exotic food and wear beautiful things and he spent several years chasing her around the world.
But he got her, and he married her two days before her tourist visa ran out and now they live in a house in Watertown, Massachusetts, and she has declared that buying decent lighting in the US is really, really hard.
Call them Bea and Phil. Call them us, who made this site for ourselves and now for you.
In the winter of 2005, Phil noticed that Bea was spending a lot of time emailing to her friends things she had found online. Bea didn’t know what Phil knew, that although email is good for many things, it’s a private and inefficient way to share links.
And Bea finds a lot. And Phil thought it would be nice if Bea and her friends could share things online, and maybe a hundred other people could watch.
So StyleFeeder is Phil’s answer to Bea’s obsession: some things are so damn cool that the world has to know.
